Structured knowledge bases — Wikipedia and, particularly, Wikidata — continue to serve as foundational sources many AI systems draw on for verified, structured facts, making genuine, appropriate presence within them a worthwhile GEO consideration, distinct from and complementary to your own website's content.
Wikipedia requires meeting fairly strict notability guidelines and involves prose articles reviewed by volunteer editors. Wikidata is a separate, structured database of facts (without prose) with a somewhat more permissive inclusion standard, making it realistically achievable for a meaningfully broader range of legitimate businesses and entities.
Both platforms represent community-verified, structured, generally reliable sources of factual information — characteristics that make them attractive as grounding sources for AI systems seeking to reduce the risk of citing inaccurate or unverifiable claims.
Wikidata's more modest bar for inclusion, relative to Wikipedia's, makes it a genuinely realistic target for many legitimate businesses that would never qualify for a full Wikipedia article.
For businesses not yet meeting notability standards for either platform, the entity consistency and structured data work covered elsewhere remains the more realistic, achievable path to building AI trust signals.
This is strongly discouraged due to conflict-of-interest guidelines, and self-created pages by involved parties are frequently flagged or removed — genuine, independent editor interest based on real notability is the appropriate path.
It is one contributing signal among several, not a guaranteed or dominant factor on its own — it complements, rather than replaces, strong content and entity consistency elsewhere.
This varies, but a straightforward, well-sourced entry for a genuinely notable, verifiable entity can often be created and reviewed within a reasonable timeframe, though ongoing accuracy maintenance matters too.

Check whether your business already has a Wikidata entry, even without a full Wikipedia article — Wikidata's more permissive notability standard makes it a realistic, worthwhile target for many more businesses than Wikipedia itself.
