Choosing a marketing agency for a D2C brand
What to ask a marketing agency before hiring them for a D2C brand, and the signals that suggest they understand margin, not just top-line growth.

A D2C brand does not need a studio budget to produce social content that sells. Some of the highest-converting content on Instagram and short-form video is genuinely low-production: a founder explaining the product, a customer's honest reaction, a close-up of the product in actual use.
Likes and follower count are the weakest signals a D2C brand can optimise for. Track link clicks, add-to-carts and actual purchases attributed to social content instead — a viral post with no sales impact is not a win by the metric that matters.
The founder talking to camera on a phone often outperforms a studio shoot, because it looks like a recommendation rather than an ad.
Three to four posts a week, mixing product, use-case and behind-the-scenes content, is sustainable for a small team and performs better than an irregular burst of daily posting followed by silence.
Prioritise content that shows the product actually being used over polished studio shots — it converts better and costs far less to produce.
