A loan EMI or insurance premium calculator is one of the most-used tools on a financial services website, and also a common source of customer frustration when the actual offer, based on individual underwriting, differs meaningfully from the illustrative calculator result.
A calculator with too many inputs discourages use; one with too few oversimplifies to the point of being misleading. A middle ground — the key two or three variables that most affect the result — usually serves customers best.
A calculator that overpromises gets remembered the moment a customer's actual offer does not match it.
Test the calculator on mobile specifically, since many customers research loan or insurance options on a phone, often comparing multiple providers' calculators in different tabs during the same session.
Label every calculator result as illustrative and show the assumptions used clearly — a customer whose actual offer differs significantly from the calculator result loses trust quickly.
